About This Year’s Dominion GardenFest of Lights

Dominion GardenFest of Lights is a holiday tradition for many Richmond families.  It features more than a half-million lights, botanical decorations, model trains, holiday dinners, family activities and more. It will run nightly 5 – 10 p.m. from Nov. 25, 2016 through January 9, 2017 (closed Dec. 24 & 25). There is a new theme this year: Living Color, and a new event on Dec. 5:  M&T Bank Lights Up for Reading.

THEME:
Living Color
explores how the world’s kaleidoscope of colors speaks to us, impacts nature and influences culture. Our world communicates through color and you’ll find a rainbow of sparkling colors at this year’s GardenFest of Lights. Color touches every facet of our life: The shades of fruits and vegetables signal the peak of ripeness for doses of color-coded nutrients. Pollinators seek flowers and nectar based on color cues. Minerals collect and form colors in gemstones, while flowers and foliage offer pigments for dyes that transform fabrics and papers. Even our moods are influenced by the wide-ranging colors from a spectacular winter sunset to half-a-million sparkling lights in a brilliant kaleidoscope of color.

See colorful translucent butterflies in flight, stained glass-inspired illuminations, sparkling white light transformed into a brilliant rainbow, floating flowers opening and reaching toward “sunlight,” fields of brightly colored blooms waving in the moonlight, illuminated spheres dancing in the sky and more!
